VACCINATION INFORMATION
What to expect after your pet's vaccinations?
It is very common for animals to experience mild side effects after receiving a vaccine, usually beginning a few hours after vaccination.
SIDE EFFECTS
The following side effects are not unusual. However, if they last more than one or two days, or cause significant discomfort to your pet it is important to contact your veterinarian.
-
- Local discomfort and swelling in the area of the vaccine.
- Slight fever
- Decrease in appetite and activity
- Sneezing, mild cough, runny nose or other respiratory symptoms occurring 2-5 days after your pet receives an intranasal vaccine.
Please visit a veterinarian or emergency clinic if you develop the following symptoms:
-
- Vomiting and persistent diarrhea
- Itchy skin with raised areas (urticaria)
- Swelling in the muzzle and around the head, neck or eyes
- Severe cough or shortness of breath
- Collapse
*Less common, but more serious side effects, such as allergic reactions can occur within minutes to hours after vaccination. These reactions can be dangerous and are medical emergencies that should be treated immediately.
A small, firm, swollen area may develop under the skin in the area where the vaccine was given. It should begin to disappear within a few weeks. If it persists for more than 3 weeks, or appears to be growing, you should contact your veterinarian.
Always inform your veterinarian if your pet has had previous allergic reactions to any vaccine or medication. If you have any concerns, wait 30-60 minutes after vaccination before taking your pet home.
